Ryan Gosling (45) has landed a spectacular new role: The Hollywood star will play Ghost Rider in a new cinematic adaptation of the Marvel character. The studio announced this at Comic-Con in San Diego. Footage of this can be seen on Instagram.
Shawn Levy (58), the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, will helm the film. This continues the collaboration between Ryan Gosling and Levy - following another highly anticipated project: Their film Star Wars: Starfighter is set to hit theaters next year.
Rumors Have Been Circulating for Months
The announcement of Ryan Gosling's new Marvel role generated great excitement at San Diego Comic-Con. The Ghost Rider film is scheduled to hit theaters in 2028, according to Marvel Studios. For at least a year, there had been rumors in U.S. media reports about a comeback of the character with the actor. But it was only through Gosling's appearance that this was now officially confirmed.
For the Barbie star, this apparently also fulfills a personal dream. "As you know, this is a role I've wanted to play for a very long time," the 45-year-old explained at the event.
"Absolutely Incredible"
Director Shawn Levy also took the stage, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He revealed there that he and Gosling had discussed Ghost Rider during the filming of Starfighter. "Gosling is absolutely incredible," the filmmaker reportedly said, adding: "I say that with great respect."
Ryan Gosling, who celebrated success this year with Der Astronaut - Project Hail Mary, is not the first Hollywood star to step into the role. Nicolas Cage (62) played the character of Ghost Rider in two Ghost Rider films released in 2007 and 2012. Gabriel Luna (43) appeared as Ghost Rider in the television series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
