For Natalie Imbruglia (51), the birth of her son Max in 2019 fulfilled a great wish. She had become pregnant with the help of artificial insemination. However, the process leading up to the pregnancy had been quite brutal. The singer shared this on the podcast How To Fail with Elizabeth Day.

Learning process was associated with a lot of trauma

Looking back, Imbruglia explained: There are many things I didn't know or understand about this process. It was associated with a lot of trauma to figure all of this out gradually. That's why the musician advised women to inform themselves comprehensively before IVF treatment, to ask many questions, and to connect with others who have been through it. Additionally, it's easier with good friends by your side, as it can be quite a lonely experience.

The time after the embryo transfer was particularly difficult. She experienced the two weeks until the pregnancy test as extremely nerve-wracking. The abrupt discontinuation of hormone treatment was equally stressful. It's this free fall that nobody prepares you for, Imbruglia described her experiences. They just say: 'Sorry, it didn't work out,' and then that's it.

Even after successful fertilization, she wasn't completely relieved. When I found out I was pregnant, I was mainly thinking about all the women in the world who are still waiting for this news, Imbruglia said. Despite the difficult time, she would go through it a thousand times over for her son.

Singer explains her decision

The Torn interpreter also made it clear that her decision should not be understood as a conscious rejection of a relationship. At some point you simply face the situation that the biological clock is ticking and a decision must be made, she said. Imbruglia is very grateful for modern medicine and the possibility of artificial insemination.

Natalie Imbruglia was married to musician Daniel Johns (47) from 2003 to 2008. Their marriage remained childless. After the divorce, the singer kept her dating life out of the public eye.
