Weaving is set to become a superhero in a Marvel reboot of X-Men, according to U.S. industry media. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Weaving is set to play the mutant Emma Frost, according to both Deadline and Variety. Anonymous sources reportedly confirmed to the industry portal Deadline that Weaving has already been cast. Director Jake Schreier (44) and Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige (53) reportedly decided on the Australian actress this week. However, Marvel declined to comment on the matter. A spokesperson for Weaving also declined to respond to an inquiry from Variety.
No Getting Around Samara Weaving
According to insiders, Schreier and several executives recently held casting sessions for several roles, with Weaving ultimately emerging as the winner for Frost. The character has been part of the Marvel universe since the early 1980s. She is described as a mutant who transformed from a supervillain to a superhero. The screenplay for the reboot is reportedly written by Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo.
This year, Weaving has already been seen in leading roles in the horror comedy Ready or Not 2, in the action comedy Over Your Dead Body, and in the thriller Carolina Caroline. Previously, she was part of the cast of Eenie Meanie, Scream VI, and the series Nine Perfect Strangers, among others. Several projects are currently pending, including a The Earliest Show revival.
