Actor Lukas Gage (31) has provided insights into the planned reboot of "Prison Break". At the premiere of "Voicemails for Isabelle", he spoke with the trade publication "The Hollywood Reporter" about the project and announced a significantly darker tone. They are currently in the middle of filming and "we're paying tribute to the television series that I loved as a kid. But since the reboot will be on Hulu and no longer on Fox, we can go really dark and hard. It's going to be crazy, it's going to be a wild ride."
Gage clarified that the new version features a new cast, but also let fans know that "a few of the original actors could return". The original centered on brothers Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield, portrayed by Dominic Purcell (56) and Wentworth Miller (54). In addition to new main characters, the production is also relying on experience, according to Gage. "Many great character actors" would be part of the project, he said, adding: "I'm currently working with Margo Martindale (74)."
What the reboot is about
The main cast of the new version, which is set in the same series universe as the original, includes Lukas Gage as well as Emily Browning, Drake Rodger, Clayton Cardenas, JR Bourne, Georgie Flores, and Myles Bullock. The project was developed by Elgin James, the creator of the series "Mayans M.C.".
At the center of the plot is former soldier Cassidy Collins, played by Browning. She takes a position as a prison guard in one of the most dangerous correctional facilities in the USA and is confronted with the question of how far she would go to help a loved one. Drake Rodger portrays the inmate Tommy, who has been incarcerated for ten years. Lukas Gage takes on the role of politician Jackson, who comes from wealthy circumstances.
"Prison Break" ran for five seasons
At the center of "Prison Break" was Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, who did everything possible to prove the innocence of his death row brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell). To save him from execution, he developed a complex escape plan from prison.
The series initially ran for four seasons on the FOX network. This was followed by the 2009 television movie "The Final Break", which aired shortly after the fourth season finale and concluded the storyline. In 2017, the format returned with another season conceived as a miniseries, in which Miller and Purcell once again took on the lead roles.
