Lionel Richie (77) was reportedly taken to a hospital after having to cancel the first show of his joint tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, according to consistent US reports. As reported by both the celebrity portal "TMZ" and "Page Six", the singer was taken to a local clinic after becoming dizzy on stage.

During the performance in Saint Paul in the US state of Minnesota, the singer had ended his tour kickoff after about an hour, according to previous media reports. He indicated to the audience that he was feeling unwell. "When you're dizzy, sit your butt down", he said according to the "Minnesota Star Tribune". About 40 minutes after Richie had called a surprise break, saxophonist Dino Soldo took the stage and explained: "Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well. He will not be able to continue."

Richie's circle speaks of alleged precautionary measure

According to "TMZ", sources from Richie's circle have now stated that paramedics received him backstage and he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The anonymous sources reportedly spoke of a precautionary measure. "Page Six" reports that a spokesman for the Saint Paul Fire Department confirmed that "an adult male was transported from the arena to a local hospital last night".

Richie or his team have not yet commented on the alleged hospital stay. Furthermore, it is not publicly known how the singer is currently doing. Therefore, it is also unclear whether Richie may have to postpone upcoming dates on his tour. Three more performances are currently scheduled for June - in Chicago, Columbus and Pittsburgh.
