Queen Letizia (53) closed the 16th edition of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest in Palma on Sunday evening. In the courtyard of the La Misericordia cultural center, she presented French composer Alexandre Desplat (64) with the Master of Cinema honorary award, with which the festival honors his career in film music. It was the Queen's first public engagement during the Spanish royal family's Mallorca stay this year.
For the evening, Letizia chose an asymmetrically cut, long dress in deep red, which featured a side zipper and leg slit. The design is by Carolina Herrera. She paired it with Gucci sandals, a gold-colored clutch, and matching earrings and rings.
A chat on the blue carpet
Around 9 p.m., the Queen arrived at the venue and first greeted Spanish actors Javier Bardem (57) and Victoria Luengo (36) on the blue carpet. Bardem was accompanied by his siblings Carlos and Mónica. Other guests included director Rodrigo Sorogoyen as well as actors Miguel Bernardeau and Gael García Bernal, as "Hola!" reports. Letizia also posed together for photographers with film producer Jaume Ripoll and award winner Alexandre Desplat.
During the gala, Letizia sat in the front row, once again in close proximity to Bardem and Luengo. The musical part of the program was provided by actress and singer Leonor Watling with a live performance. The official Palmarés awards were also presented, with which the festival recognizes the best independent contributions of the past weeks. Following the ceremony, the film "El ser querido" by Sorogoyen was shown.
The Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest started as Spain's first purely online film festival and showcases international productions that have not made it to Spanish movie theaters.
Felipe VI with additional commitments
The appearance at the film festival marks the beginning of the royal family's Mallorca stay. On Tuesday, Letizia and King Felipe VI will host the traditional summer reception at the Marivent Palace for representatives of Balearic society. No further engagements are scheduled for the Queen this week.
The King, however, has two more appointments on his calendar. On Saturday, August 8, he will present the trophies to the winners of the 44th Copa del Rey de Vela at La Almudaina Palace. One day earlier, he will attend the inauguration of Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella. The family's private vacation will begin afterwards.
