Glen Hansard (1970-2026) was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident on July 29, 2026. This has been reported by Irish broadcaster RTÉ and British broadcaster BBC, among others. According to RTÉ, the accident occurred early Wednesday morning in a district of the Irish capital Dublin.
Investigation into the accident
It is with deep regret that they must announce that Hansard "passed away in the early morning hours following a traffic accident in Dublin", according to a statement from ATC Management provided to the broadcasters. His family is deeply shocked and inconsolable over the tragic loss and asks for privacy during this difficult time.
The family expresses gratitude for the support and to the emergency responders who were on the scene. Apparently, the accident is being investigated more closely. According to the statement, the Garda, the Irish police, is currently actively conducting investigations. Therefore, there will be no further statement on this matter for the time being.
Hansard was known, among other things, as the frontman of the band The Frames, took on a role in the 1991 film "The Commitments", and was later honored with an Oscar. For the 2007 film "Once", in which he appeared alongside musician Markéta Irglová (38), the two wrote and performed the song "Falling Slowly". At the 80th Academy Awards in 2008, they were honored with the golden statuette in the category "Best Original Song".
