Dutch singer Loona (51) and her long-time partner Mark van der Waal have gotten married. After 17 years as a couple, the two tied the knot in Las Vegas, as the "Bailando" interpreter revealed in her Instagram story. "We did it", she wrote in a post featuring some wedding photos.
The photos show the newlywed couple standing under the famous city sign, kissing in front of the chapel, and exchanging wedding rings. A short clip shows a close-up of the bride and groom at the altar. The groom wore a tuxedo, while the bride chose a white dress with a sweetheart neckline, voluminous tulle skirt, and sparkling bustier.
Couple married on June 1st
As reported by the "Bild" newspaper, the wedding ceremony took place on June 1st in an intimate setting. According to the report, only Loona's daughter Saphira from her relationship with DJ Sammy (56), van der Waal's daughter from a previous relationship, an officiant, and a photographer were in attendance.
The wedding location is connected to a painful memory for the "Bailando" singer, whose real name is Marie-José van der Kolk. In Las Vegas 23 years ago, she had to cancel a tour after her mother passed away. "When I was back in Las Vegas, all those feelings came back", Loona described to the tabloid. However, it was also an opportunity to associate the place with something positive in the future.
Wedding dance to their engagement song
According to the report, after exchanging vows, the newlyweds danced to Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do (I Do It for You)" - the song they had gotten engaged to back in October 2024. At that time, van der Waal popped the big question to the musician during the "90s Super Show" at Munich's Olympic Hall. Looking back, Loona says: "I actually never wanted to get married. But when Mark stood before me, I simply said yes because it felt right."
The couple apparently didn't place much value on extravagance at their wedding: the wedding rings reportedly cost less than 50 euros. It wasn't "important at all" to them, the singer explains. "The main thing is that we're married."
They met in Mallorca
Loona and Mark van der Waal first met 34 years ago, according to "Bild". In 1992, Loona was still working as a dancer at a club in Mallorca where van der Waal was a frequent guest. Their paths initially separated before they reunited in 2006. Loona called a company about a satellite connection, van der Waal answered, and recognized her by her voice. They became a couple in 2009.
