With songs about substances, drugs, and provocation, Ikkimel has built herself a huge fan base. However, the fact that her music doesn't meet with enthusiasm everywhere was demonstrated on Monday on ZDF's "Morgenmagazin". The Berlin-based rapper appeared in the World Cup arena - and left a visibly confused audience.
Bewildered faces in the studio
The 29-year-old performed her song "Fußballmänner", which includes lyrics such as: "Soccer men, all losers. Beer belly, bratwurst, yum yum" and "Crossbar banger, Mertesacker, Tiki-Taka in a thong".
During the performance, many viewers in the studio remained noticeably motionless. Some stared into space or at the floor, others looked at the stage in bewilderment. The musician had to laugh several times herself during her performance - apparently the situation was that absurd.
After the song, there was only restrained applause. Host Andreas Wunn then explained: "Dear soccer men, don't be offended. This is provocation and art and really strikes a nerve with Gen Z right now." Later, Ikkimel said goodbye with the words: "Thanks 'MOMA', we're looking forward to the Women's World Cup next year."
The appearance is also being discussed online
On social media, the unusual TV moment quickly became a topic of conversation. Host Micky Beisenherz commented on the corresponding clip on Instagram with the words: "This is so grotesquely funny!" He described the appearance as "Hurz 3.0" - a reference to Hape Kerkeling's legendary television prank.
Ikkimel herself also took the situation with humor. Before her excursion into breakfast television, she wrote in her Instagram story: "Good morning 'MOMA'. Today I'm performing in front of a school class and the over-50 crowd. Hell yeah." She commented on a short clip of her appearance, in which the camera cut to the supposed school class, with the words: "Edit from hell."
Success through provocation
Ikkimel, whose real name is Melina Gaby Strauß, is from Berlin and is currently one of the most successful German female rappers. With songs like "Keta und Krawall" and her modern feminism, she has built a large fan base, especially among young fans. On Spotify, she now has more than two million monthly listeners.
In mid-May, she released her new album "Poppstar". Song titles like "Wanderhure", "Facesitting", or "Kink" show that provocation continues to be her trademark. A concept that apparently encountered a rather unprepared audience on ZDF's "Morgenmagazin".
