Patrice Aminati (31) has informed her followers on Instagram about the next step in her cancer treatment. In several stories on Tuesday, she describes being back at the university hospital. She had previously hinted that a new series of radiation would be necessary. Now it's clear: the previous therapy did not work sufficiently on some metastases. This was revealed by the most recent MRI.
"Strength is finite"
For Aminati, this means another burden during an already exhausting time. She writes openly about how exhausted she is after more than three years of illness. The situation is making her tired and burned out. While support helps her, it doesn't take away the actual journey itself. This "backpack", which keeps getting heavier, must ultimately be carried alone.
In another story, Aminati describes how before each new therapy, careful consideration is given to whether it makes sense or just puts additional strain on the body. "Strength is finite", she explains. At the same time, she holds on to a sentence that a fellow patient shared with her: as long as doctors are still treating, there is hope. This thought gives her strength, as do kind messages and small gestures.
The past few days have been particularly exhausting for her. The heat has taken an additional toll on the chronically ill, Aminati writes. This starts with keeping medications cool and extends to side effects that can intensify in high temperatures. Some relief has now set in, so she can catch her breath briefly.
Patrice Aminati has melanoma and is, according to her own statements, a palliative care patient. For quite some time, she has been speaking openly about her incurable cancer and its impact on her daily life. Her young daughter is also becoming increasingly aware of her mother's illness and treatments. Aminati still tries to maintain as much normalcy as possible in family life. At some point it will be necessary to talk to her about it, "but I hope that day is still far away", she said recently in a "Brisant" interview.
