When Gülcan Kamps (43) talks about her husband, she starts gushing. "It is my greatest luxury and jackpot that I have Sebastian as a partner, dad, and husband", says the TV host in the current issue of "Bunte" about Sebastian Kamps (44). "For me, he is a wonderful father. Very patient, loving, and having fun doing it."
Her husband seeks closeness to the children on his own initiative. "He enjoys playing with the child, doing crafts, simply being there", says the 43-year-old. "It's really funny, sometimes he sits there with mini-Kamps and I watch the two of them. At some point I realize: Are the two of them playing together or is only Sebastian playing? He's completely in his element."
When it comes to the "bad cop", the parents agree
Regarding the division of roles at home, Kamps explains to the magazine: "I think we are both very often the 'good cop.' And when it comes to the 'bad cop,' we usually agree pretty much. When it comes to a child testing boundaries, we're often in sync. Then we just look at each other and both know: That's enough now."
The couple does not accept outside support. When asked whether she gets help with the children in everyday life, the TV host answers briefly: "No, we don't." At the same time, she pays respect to other parents: "Respect to all parents who manage this without help. It's really extremely much, as we have now learned."
For herself, Gülcan Kamps has one main principle. "I try not to be loud", says the TV host. "A child is not to blame, it simply cannot understand many things yet." What's important are patience and love. You can't expect children to think like adults.
"Stress is not a good companion when wanting children"
There's a reason why the TV host describes her family life in such detail, one that she herself made public: The path to her two children took years. Kamps had spoken on Instagram about a "rocky road to having a child". In the "Bunte" interview, she explains what she meant: "I thought, we are two people who love each other, who want a child, and now is the right time - and then nothing happened."
Examinations followed, but nothing was found. "You then think: 'What's the reason?' And we got no answer to that exact question." The doctors didn't have an explanation either.
The constant alternation between hope and disappointment was particularly stressful for her. "Month after month you hope. Month after month you take a test", Kamps recounts. When asked whether she repeatedly looked at a pregnancy test with anticipation, she answers: "Yes. And every time I was disappointed." In retrospect, she recognized how much this cycle burdened her: "When you constantly control, track and monitor everything, an incredible amount of stress develops. And stress is not a good companion when wanting children."
Married to Sebastian Kamps since 2007
In December 2021, Gülcan Kamps became a mother for the first time at age 39; in April 2026, the second child was born. In 2007, Gülcan and Sebastian Kamps got married in front of a television audience of millions; her husband comes from the entrepreneur family behind the well-known Kamps bakery chain. The former VIVA host consistently keeps her children out of the public eye: There are no photos, and she has not revealed their gender or names to this day.
