Baby joy for Becca Tobin (40): The former "Glee" actress has become a mother for the second time. The actress announced the news on Thursday in an episode of her podcast "The LadyGang" recorded live from the hospital.
Together with her husband Zach Martin, Tobin is celebrating the birth of their daughter Meyer June Martin. The girl was born on July 19 - around five and a half weeks before the due date. The reason for the early delivery was preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication that occurred with the surrogate mother.
Daughter Was Born Several Weeks Early
Since Meyer was born prematurely, she will initially remain in the neonatal intensive care unit for two to six weeks. According to her mother, however, the baby is doing well. At birth, the little one weighed around 5.5 pounds and is currently being fed through a feeding tube - a common procedure for premature babies, as Tobin explained.
The moment of delivery was particularly emotional for the actress. At the suggestion of the midwife, she was allowed to deliver her daughter herself. "She asked me: 'Do you want to deliver your baby yourself?' Of course, I immediately said yes", Tobin recounted on the podcast. Although the umbilical cord was wrapped twice around the baby's neck, the birth proceeded without complications.
Why Becca Tobin's Daughter Is Named "Meyer June"
The actress also explained her daughter's name: The middle name June honors her beloved grandmother. Meyer was the name of her great-grandfather and means "bringer of light" in Hebrew.
For Becca Tobin and Zach Martin, this is their second child together. Son Rutherford "Ford" Thomas was born in February 2022, also with the help of a surrogate mother. The couple tied the knot in December 2016.
Becca Tobin appeared in the musical series "Glee" from the fourth season from 2012 to 2015. She portrayed the character Kitty Wilde.
