With a magnificent gala, King Carl XVI Gustaf (80) and Queen Silvia (82) celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday evening. Following a church service, boat ride, carriage procession, and a public concert, the festive highlight of the day took place in the evening at the Royal Opera House - a venue that holds special significance for the royal couple. It was there in 1976, on the eve of their wedding, that ABBA's legendary song "Dancing Queen" was performed for the first time. Afterwards, they concluded the day with a private dinner with family and close friends.
Fashion-wise, it was especially the royal women of the Swedish royal house who rose to the occasion: Queen Silvia opted for a slim-cut lilac evening gown with a sparkling jacket. Crown Princess Victoria (48) sparkled alongside her mother: The heir to the throne wore a glittering gown by Christer Lindarw, a transparent Gucci clutch, and silver pumps by Gianvito Rossi. Victoria complemented her look with understated diamond earrings.
Princess Sofia (41) chose a more modern gown: The wife of Prince Carl Philip (46) wore a spring-like dress with floral embroidery. Sofia paired her look with a gold clutch, beige pumps by Gianvito Rossi, and jewelry by Ole Lynggaard.
Madeleine's Loving Tribute to Silvia
Princess Madeleine (43) - also in a floral pattern - created a loving tribute to her mother. The youngest daughter of the royal couple borrowed from Silvia's wardrobe for her gala look and wore a pink dress that the Queen had already worn at an appearance in 2005. Madeleine paired the summery evening dress with a green clutch, Zara heels, and coral-colored earrings.
The men of the royal house also appeared extremely elegant. King Carl Gustaf, Crown Princess Victoria's husband Prince Daniel (52), Prince Carl Philip, as well as Madeleine's husband Christopher O'Neill (51) opted for classic evening attire, deliberately allowing their wives to take the fashion spotlight.
