Jane Seymour (75) is getting married again. The British-American actress, who became famous through the US series "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", is engaged to musician and paramedic John Zambetti. The couple confirmed this to the US magazine "People" in a joint interview. The two have been together for almost three years - they celebrate their third anniversary in August.
Zambetti proposed earlier this year, on Valentine's Day, one day before Seymour's birthday. The moment wasn't planned for long. "It was just before her birthday. I thought: 'This is crazy. I'm just going to do it'", he explained. Originally, he had been considering much more elaborate ideas.
A Ring with Two Stones
The engagement ring was particularly important to Zambetti. He said the piece of jewelry caught his attention because of its unusual design: Instead of a single stone, the ring features two stones. "Normally an engagement ring would have one stone, but I liked that this one had two stones", he explained to the magazine. For him, the design symbolically represents the couple - the two of them together as well as their respective previous lives that brought them together.
The paramedic describes himself as old-fashioned. He doesn't think much of the term "partner": "We're not starting a law firm", Zambetti said. One of his original ideas, which he himself described as "completely absurd", involved enlisting Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger (82). He was supposed to secretly hand over the ring during a meeting while Zambetti pretended not to have one with him.
Proposal with Slapstick Elements
Ultimately, it turned out much more chaotic than planned. The proposal took place at the couple's shared home in Malibu. "I got down on one knee, the whole nine yards", Zambetti recalls. He said he retrieved the ring hidden in the safe and opened the box - "and the ring jumped out of the box onto the bed".
While trying to find it, the paramedic crawled under the bed and couldn't get back out. Seymour had to get up and pull him out. "And we had no clothes on", the actress added with a smile. Getting up also became a challenge: "The funniest thing was that afterward he couldn't get up. His knee had gotten stuck because he had been lying under the bed, and I'm not strong enough to pull him up because he weighs almost twice as much as me. We looked at each other and started laughing hysterically."
Two Families, Many Children
She was particularly surprised by the timing, not the decision itself. "I knew he had found a ring", Seymour said. It had already been clear for a long time that Zambetti wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
Both bring large families with them: Zambetti was previously married for 43 years and has two children, Seymour was married four times and has six children. Their relatives warmly welcomed the relationship. Seymour reported laughingly about her family's reaction: "They said: 'You can't date this man. We like him too much. You might mess it up.'"
Wedding Plans Still Open
According to the couple, how and when the wedding will be celebrated has not yet been determined. "For us, the most important thing is that it's about us and about our families", Seymour told the US magazine. "We have many close friends, and no one's getting any younger. So I think at some point there will be some kind of celebration or ceremony."
For Seymour, who by her own account has experienced betrayal as well as many ups and downs, the relationship is something unexpected. About Zambetti, she said: "He is the kindest, most intelligent, most loving, most caring, and most generous person I have ever met."
