On Sunday (July 5), "Diese Ochsenknechts" celebrated its free-TV debut. At 7:05 PM, RTL aired the first episode of the new, already fifth season of the successful documentary series from Sky. However, only 0.57 million viewers tuned in according to AGF Videoforschung. This resulted in a weak market share of 3.3 percent. Only 0.13 million of the viewers came from the network's target demographic (5.2 percent).

The weak ratings are all the more remarkable given that there was no competition from soccer royalty on Sunday. No World Cup match in North America aired the evening before.

The Ochsenknechts had to admit defeat to "Galileo X-Plorer" in the direct ratings duel in the target demographic. The competing show on ProSieben claimed victory over the celebrity clan with an episode about Mormons. The documentary about the religious community achieved a market share of 11.9 percent. Young viewers in particular tuned in.

Predictable Flop?

On Sky and its streaming service WOW, the fifth season of "Diese Ochsenknechts" already celebrated its premiere on April 21 of this year. Additionally, the eight episodes are already available for viewing on RTL+. Fans of the series therefore already had plenty of opportunities to watch the new episodes.

The broadcast of "Diese Ochsenknechts" on free-TV is a result of the acquisition of Sky Deutschland by the RTL Group. The deal became legally binding on June 1, 2026.

"Diese Ochsenknechts" celebrated its pay-TV premiere on Sky in 2022. The docu-soap follows the lives of Natascha Ochsenknecht and her children Jimi Blue, Wilson Gonzalez, and Cheyenne. A spin-off about the Ochsenknecht daughter and her husband Nino Sifkovits followed with "Unser Hof - Mit Cheyenne und Nino". In 2025, another format from the Ochsenknecht universe launched with "Yeliz & Jimi - We Are Family?!".
