Will Ferrell (58) appears almost completely undressed for a new advertising campaign - but not as himself, rather in a role. The US comedian poses for the men's line of the underwear brand Skims as golfer Lonnie "The Hawk" Hawkins, his character from the upcoming Netflix series "The Hawk". This makes the photo series simultaneously advertising for the comedy series, which launches on July 16.

In the role of the aging golf star

For the shots, Ferrell slips into the character of a once highly-touted golfer who wants to reconnect with past successes. He wears a white visor cap with the inscription "Hawk" as well as a puka shell necklace - a reference to the early 2000s, when the character according to "People" experienced his athletic peak. He is clothed only in underwear, with some motifs supplemented by a white undershirt and various golf accessories.

In one photo, Ferrell holds a golf club over his shoulder, in another he lies with an emphatically serious expression next to the club and ball. Another motif shows him squeezing a blue sports drink out of a water bottle.

A commercial with self-irony

The campaign also includes a video. In it, the comedian - dressed only in briefs, socks and sneakers - hits a ball while a voice-over hints at the plot of the series. "His body says: retirement", it says, while his underwear advises "one more round". The accompanying caption announces that the "legendary golfer" is back for another round - this time in Skims.

The campaign was prepared by the Skims founder herself: As early as June 16, Kim Kardashian (45) in an Instagram video explained to Ferrell, who was still appearing in his role, how to take the perfect selfie - complete with tips on chin position and "good side".

For the latest shoot motifs, Ferrell and Kardashian received enthusiastic comments from celebrities on Instagram, including Naomi Watts, Heidi Klum and Hannah Waddingham.

What "The Hawk" is about

The comedy series "The Hawk" tells according to the official synopsis of Lonnie Hawkins, the best golfer of 2004, who wants to fight his way back one more time in the late autumn of his career. His body has long been advising him to quit, but his ambition has not; his ex-wife and his son Lance - himself a rising golf star - also consider him a failure. However, Hawkins is convinced that he is just one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history - after all, he only needs one more major title to achieve the Grand Slam.

In addition to Ferrell, the cast includes Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby, among others. "The Hawk" will be available on Netflix starting July 16.
