Ed Sheeran (35) will likely slow down after his ongoing Loop tour. At the launch of his North America concerts, the British singer announced according to the Daily Mail that he wants to take a break from music afterward. He cited his children as the reason.
Maybe Take a Time Out
After a series of his best-known songs, Sheeran addressed the audience directly in Glendale, Arizona, according to the report. He told fans they might not see him for a while, he said. This will be my last visit here for a while. I'm maybe going to take a time out after this tour ends and dedicate myself a bit to the dad job.
Sheeran has two children with his wife Cherry Seaborn (34): daughters Lyra (5) and Jupiter (4). The couple married in January 2019, having met each other in their childhood. The musician has already been on the road a lot this year: His tour began in January in New Zealand, before continuing to Australia and South America. The upcoming concerts in North America will keep Sheeran busy for the next five months. The finale will be a performance on November 7 in Tampa, Florida.
Longer breaks are nothing new for the artist. He already withdrew after his album Multiply and the associated tour in 2015, and he also took a break between 2019 and 2021 following his Divide era.
Departure from Record Label
The announced break was preceded by a major change: Last month, Ed Sheeran announced he was leaving his record label after 15 years. In a statement, he explained this was not the story of an angry artist. Rather, the teenager from back then had become a father of two who now feels he needs a change.
Sheeran signed with Atlantic Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group, in 2011. Since then, he has sold an estimated 200 million albums according to the Daily Mail. His hit Shape Of You, with nearly five billion streams on Spotify, is among the most-streamed songs of all time.
