The Locarno Film Festival will honor Asia Argento (50) with a lifetime achievement award at its 79th edition in August. According to reports, the Italian actress, director, and musician will accept the award on August 13 at the Piazza Grande. In addition to the honor, Argento will also present a film: On another festival day, she will introduce the film La Muerte No Tiene Dueño by Jorge Thielen Armand, in which she plays the leading role.
Collaboration with her father
The festival honors Argento as one of the most influential European actresses of her generation. "Since her film debut as a child in Lamberto Bava's 'Demons 2' and her leading role in Nanni Moretti's 'Palombella rossa,' Asia Argento has created a unique filmography that encompasses genre films and auteur cinema," states an official announcement. At the same time, Locarno emphasizes that Argento "effortlessly" moves between Italian productions and international ensembles, bringing a distinctive "cinematic sensibility" to every collaboration.
Throughout her career, she has been awarded the David di Donatello Award, Italy's most important film prize, twice as best actress. She has also appeared repeatedly in films by her father Dario Argento (85), including Trauma. In addition, she has worked with award-winning directors such as Gus Van Sant, George A. Romero, Sofia Coppola, and Olivier Assayas.
Asia Argento also makes music
For the festival's artistic director, Giona A. Nazzaro (61), Argento is one of cinema's distinctive personalities. She is "an artist who has always succeeded in redefining filmmaking by constantly challenging herself and taking personal risks."
In addition to her work in front of the camera, the Italian has also made a name for herself as a director. She made her directorial debut in 2000 with Scarlet Diva. Furthermore, Argento is also musically active. The 79th Locarno Film Festival takes place from August 5 to 15. Darren Aronofsky (57) will receive the Locarno Honorary Leopard this year.
