Following the attack on the Christopher Street Day celebration on Saturday evening in Berlin, talk show star Ellen DeGeneres (68) has spoken out. The American TV icon, who now lives in England with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi (53), wrote on Instagram: "Love is never wrong, and violence will never stop love."
The 68-year-old added that her compassion goes out to the victims and all those who were traumatized by the attack in Berlin. In her post, she also shared an image linking to an English-language article about the attack in the German capital.
Many Celebrities Speak Out
One woman died in the attack, and 29 people were injured. A van drove into a crowd on the sidelines of the event. Subsequently, a man allegedly attacked people with a bladed weapon. The suspected attacker was shot dead by law enforcement during a police operation on Sunday evening.
Numerous celebrities from Germany had also already expressed themselves on social media and offered their condolences. Herbert Grönemeyer (70) wrote on Instagram: "In quiet sympathy and mourning with the victims and those affected, their relatives and the eyewitnesses, and in dull anger about the attack on this bright, colorful, life-affirming celebration of togetherness and love." The singer called for reflection and solidarity. "Very sad", he added.
Sarah Connor (46), who had performed at the CSD herself on Saturday, also expressed her anger and grief in an Instagram post. "Disgusting and senseless this act! My deepest sympathy to the victims and relatives and all who were in close proximity", her message read, which she shared alongside a rainbow flag.
