Judith Rakers (50) has said goodbye to her horse Carlson. She had been posting less frequently to her Instagram followers lately, the former "Tagesschau" anchor wrote in a post. There was a sad reason for this: "Because I had to let my little Carlson go. He turned 19 years old."

At six years old, the horse injured himself and had to undergo multiple surgeries - but without long-term success. "Nothing helped in the long run, and so Carlson was allowed to retire 10 years ago and spend his golden years in the retirement herd", she reported. Although he limped, it didn't dampen his zest for life. "Until it was no longer possible, he couldn't put weight on it at all anymore and the veterinarian said we had to let him go for good now", Rakers shared. "RIP, little Carlson with the great jumping ability", she mourned and promised: "Grandma cat Luzi and Juri are already waiting for you - and someday I'll come after and then we'll gallop across the rainbow."

Along with the farewell words, she published several photos of the horse. Rakers kisses Carlson between the eyes, jumps over a log with him, and gently holds him by the nostrils.

Her Farm Life on Rügen

The former news anchor moved last year with all her animals from her farm near Hamburg to Rügen. On the new farm, she lives with her horses Sazou and Charlie as well as cats and chickens. Rakers regularly shares glimpses of her work as a homesteader on Instagram. She also dedicates herself to the topic on her website.

She had said goodbye to current news two years ago. On January 31, 2024, after 19 years, she hosted her final "Tagesschau" broadcast. She remained in the television business as host of the WDR travel magazine "Wunderschön!".
