For months, photos had to suffice. Dakota Johnson (36) and US singer Role Model (29) were spotted together at dinner, but neither of them commented. Now the musician, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, has confirmed the rumors himself. In the cover story for the magazine "NYLON Guys", he talks about collaborating with the actress and casually drops a half-sentence that answers the relationship question.
The reason for the conversation was actually a guest appearance: Johnson can be heard on the song "Love I You", which appears on Role Model's album "Chuck Timely & the Hourglass". The record comes out on August 7.
How Dakota Johnson ended up in the vocal booth
According to the singer, the fact that she took on this part wasn't planned. "I had a whole list of names to choose from, and then Dakota came to the studio one day, and Mason [Stoops, guitarist and producer, editor's note] said, 'Why don't you do it?'", the Maine-born US musician recalls.
His first reaction was defensive: "I said, 'Stop it! We don't mix work and relationships.'" This exact sentence is the confirmation that fans have been waiting for for months, "Just Jared" summarizes.
Johnson apparently wasn't deterred by that. "She said, 'I'm doing this,' got up, went into the booth, and nailed it better than we could have imagined", the musician describes. "That's when I thought: Okay, if she wants to do it, this is a great guest appearance."
Rumors since last year
Initial speculation about the couple arose late last year after the two appeared comfortable with each other during a restaurant visit together. Neither of them had publicly commented since then.
Johnson was most recently seen in the comedy "Splitsville". Role Model became known to a wider audience with the song "Sally, When The Wine Runs Out", his new album is the follow-up to that.
