Cristiano Ronaldo (41) and Georgina Rodríguez (32) want to marry after ten years together, and they plan to do so where the soccer player grew up. Details about the ceremony, which is set to take place this Saturday, August 8, in Madeira, are gradually emerging. The couple has not confirmed anything yet.
The British newspaper "The Sun" reports that the cathedral in the island capital of Funchal is said to be reserved for a wedding. Weddings at the church typically begin at 3 p.m. As early as November, the Portuguese daily newspaper "Jornal da Madeira" had reported that Ronaldo wanted to tie the knot in his homeland and that the cathedral was earmarked.
Two floors at hotel said to be blocked off
For the reception after the ceremony, the five-star Savoy Palace Hotel in the immediate vicinity is reportedly booked. An insider told the "Sun" that hotel guests were informed that two floors and several bar areas would be unavailable on Friday and Saturday.
A briefly circulating version claiming that the celebration was supposed to take place last weekend at the Quinta da Regaleira estate in Sintra, Portugal, is now considered unlikely. The park was regularly open to visitors.
One wish did not come true
Portugal's superstar wanted to wait until after the World Cup before tying the knot. In conversation with Piers Morgan at the end of 2025, he explained regarding his wedding date that he hoped to arrive at his wedding with the World Cup trophy. That didn't happen, as Portugal was eliminated in July in the round of 16 against eventual world champion Spain.
Rodríguez was the only woman he wanted to settle down with, Ronaldo told Morgan: "I will marry her because I believe it's the right time." And further: "Not just because she is the mother of my children, but because she is the person I love most." Rodríguez wanted a "private" ceremony.
Sisters wave it off
However, the closest relatives don't know anything about a date after the World Cup. Ronaldo's sisters, Katia and Elma Aveiro, spoke with the Portuguese magazine "TV 7 Dias" at the end of July and dismissed the reports. "There is no set date. This year I won't be wearing a wedding dress, neither for me nor for him", said Katia Aveiro. Elma emphasized: "He said at the beginning that he would get married, but then it was postponed. How things stand now, I don't know."
Madeira as the venue was "a lie", she clarified. All that mattered to her was "that he is happy". The wedding was never her brother's big wish anyway, she explained to the magazine: "Georgina wanted to get married and he fulfilled her wish, but it wasn't his dream."
Love for ten years
The striker and the model have been engaged since last August. At the time, the former saleswoman published a photo of her hand with the rock in bed on Instagram. "Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives", she happily wrote.
She met the soccer star in a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016, and a year later their daughter Alana Martina was born. In 2018, she moved to Italy because Ronaldo transferred to Juventus Turin, and in 2021 they moved to Manchester United in England. In April 2022, daughter Bella Esmeralda was born; her twin brother Ángel did not survive the birth. Since 2023, the family with Ronaldo's three other children has been living in Saudi Arabia, where he is still under contract with Al-Nassr to this day.
