At the G7 summit in Évian, an appearance by Friedrich (70) and Charlotte Merz (65) as well as Emmanuel (48) and Brigitte Macron (73) created an unusual comparison: The "heute-show" saw an ABBA moment in it. This was due to the apparently unintentionally coordinated outfits. The German Chancellor and the French President each chose a suit, Brigitte Macron stood in a white suit next to Charlotte Merz, who wore a white blazer and dark skirt. "New album? Abba together on the road in France", the "heute-show" titled on Instagram.
The joke also reached Friedrich Merz himself. On the Chancellor's Instagram account it says: "Admittedly: we also see similarities, dear @heuteshow." And further: "ABBA forever - like the German-French friendship." A photo of the current meeting and a picture of the band underlined the comparison.
Merz gives Trump his own Germany jersey
The Chancellor was a guest at Lake Geneva for three days. The G7 summit was not only characterized by political talks for him. Friedrich Merz surprised Donald Trump (80) with a sporty gift: He presented the US President with a Germany jersey bearing the number 47 and the name Trump on the occasion of the World Cup. The 45th and 47th President of the United States had celebrated his 80th birthday on June 14. On Instagram the Chancellor congratulated him belatedly and added: "After all, we belong to the same team."
Both Germany and the USA have already completed one game of the group stage. The USA won 4-1 against Paraguay, Germany won 7-1 against Curaçao.
