When Anthony Gordon scored for England in the 54th minute, there was no holding back David Beckham (51). The former national team player jumped up from his box at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and celebrated the goal in the World Cup semifinal against Lionel Messi and Argentina.
Next to him, Victoria Beckham (52) was also caught up in the excitement. The former Spice Girls singer also rose from her seat, cheered, and threw her arms around her husband after the goal. The couple was accompanied by their children, who cheered on the English team together with their parents.
However, the evening did not have a happy ending for the English team. Although the team took an early lead, Argentina turned the match around and won 2-1 in the end. This means Messi and his team will face Spain in the final on Sunday (July 19th). The final will be held at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Celebrity Guests in the Stands
The Beckhams were present in Atlanta in almost full force. According to "The Independent", Victoria was joined by daughter Harper as well as Cruz with his partner Jackie Apostel and Romeo in the stands. In addition to the Beckhams, countless other English fans had gathered at the stadium.
Among the prominent spectators was Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger. One Direction star Louis Tomlinson also watched the game, with girlfriend Zara McDermott at his side. US rapper Tauheed Epps, better known as 2 Chainz, was also on site. "Stranger Things" actress Millie Bobby Brown shared several photos before kickoff, including a selfie wearing an England jersey from inside the stadium. She then wrote: "So proud to be English and so proud of my team".
