How did it come about that Cathy Hummels (38) took her son Ludwig (8) onto the red carpet, when she otherwise consistently keeps him out of the public eye? The moderator and entrepreneur provided the answer on her Instagram account herself. According to this, the initiative came from the eight-year-old. When Hummels told him that she would be attending the German premiere of "Minions & Monster" for Universal Pictures, he immediately reacted: "Mom, can I come along?"
Her answer was clear: "Of course, my darling. But lots of photos will be taken there." The fact that her son knows exactly what her profession entails - hosting, content, constant presence in front of the camera - made his reaction all the more touching for her. Ludwig simply replied: "I want to do everything you do too."
As a "Minion" on the red carpet
The compromise for her was then "the right costume". Fitting for the occasion, Ludwig therefore transformed himself into one of the yellow film characters without further ado. At the appearance at the Mathäser Filmpalast near Karlsplatz, the boy not only wore a bright yellow T-shirt, but also sported a matching colored cap and the chunky glasses typical of the "Minions". Even black gloves were part of the costume despite the summer heat.
His mother also coordinated her outfit in color with the helpers of villain Gru. She appeared in a floor-length dress with long sleeves in a yellow leopard print - and balanced, just like her son, one of the distinctive "Minions" glasses on her head.
Ludwig wasn't the only "Minion"
As Hummels further revealed on Instagram, it didn't stop at a single small companion. Her son was allowed to take a group of friends of the same age to the cinema with him. In a story video, at least three other children dressed as "Minions" can be seen bustling around the moderator. "How sweet are they", she wrote about it.
Another video from the cinema hall captured prominent seating neighbors: Hummels and her small crew apparently secured seats directly in front of the Kaulitz twins Bill and Tom (36). The two Tokio Hotel musicians lend their voices to two supporting characters in the German version of the film. The cinema release is this Wednesday.
The joint son comes from Cathy Hummels' marriage to former professional soccer player Mats Hummels (37). The couple tied the knot in 2015. In 2022, after prolonged speculation, both confirmed their separation which had already taken place. Ludwig was four years old at that time.
"For me it's incredibly wonderful to take him along into my professional everyday life on some days", Hummels explains in her current Instagram post. "Especially because the desire always comes from him. I think it's important to listen to children, to take them seriously and to give them space to discover their own interests. Without pressure." No matter what her son dreams of "or which path he takes later, I will always support him. I want him to find his own way".
