Angelique Kerber (38) and Ana Ivanović (38) are using the summer for a getaway together. The former tennis stars spent time on the Italian island of Capri with friends. Ivanović shared impressions from the vacation on Instagram.
"Capri with the girls", she wrote in English alongside a series of photos that also show her with Kerber. The two are sitting close together on the terrace of a restaurant and smiling at the camera. Kerber has her arm around the shoulder of her friend and former rival, while Ivanović holds her companion by the arm and places a hand on her knee.
Both are wearing white summer dresses: Ivanović opted for a halter-neck style, while Kerber chose a dress with spaghetti straps. In her Instagram story, Ivanović also posted a group photo - everyone beaming in all white. Kerber, in turn, shared photos of a restaurant visit together in her story.
A final tennis match among friends
Already on Friday, the former world number one had kicked off the joint vacation. "Girls weekend starts", she wrote alongside initial photos from Capri. In them, she showed the coastal landscape, presented a pink summer outfit, and posed with Kerber and the group of friends. In another post, she checked in from a market and shared photos of the ocean view.
The joint vacation is unlikely to surprise fans of the tennis icons. They have been considered friends for a long time. For her farewell match on June 20, the German brought her longtime companion back onto the tennis court one more time. Kerber won against the former world number one in Bad Homburg.
After the match, Kerber thanked Ivanović on Instagram for "sharing this special moment with me". "True friendships in tennis really do exist, and they will last far beyond our tennis careers", she added.
Angelique Kerber ended her professional career after the 2024 Olympic Games. Ana Ivanović announced her retirement in December 2016.
