The sequel to 'Clueless' has finally found a home. Paramount+ has given the green light to the series starring Alicia Silverstone in her iconic role as Cher Horowitz, as reported by the US trade publication 'Variety'.
Six episodes have been ordered initially, with filming scheduled to begin in 2027 in Los Angeles. According to 'Variety', the production has already submitted documents to the California Film Commission to receive state tax incentives.
The development hasn't been smooth. Originally, the project was set up at streaming service Peacock in early 2025. In April 2026, it was announced that it wouldn't be moving forward there. Now Paramount+ is taking over.
Cher Horowitz as a Mother
The series is set in the present day. The official synopsis states: 'Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz (Silverstone) has a lot under control: She's professionally successful and has mastered motherhood. Until her daughter enters high school and Cher realizes that as the mother of a teenage girl, she's completely clueless again.'
For the streaming service, landing the show is more than a nostalgia decision. 'Clueless' was released theatrically in 1995 through Paramount Pictures. With the series, the brand stays in-house rather than going to a competitor.
Familiar Names Behind the Scenes
The screenplay is being written by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss. All three are also serving as executive producers, with Schwartz and Savage doing so through their company Fake Empire. Silverstone herself is on board as an executive producer, as is Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the original film, along with its producer Robert Lawrence.

From Teen Movie to Film Registry
'Clueless' premiered in 1995 and is loosely based on Jane Austen's novel 'Emma'. In addition to Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer and Dan Hedaya. A first series adaptation ran from 1996 to 1999 for three seasons, with Rachel Blanchard as Cher. The Library of Congress recently inducted 'Clueless' into the National Film Registry of the United States.
