Great concern for Ralph Siegel (80): The composer and long-time Eurovision Song Contest success story is being treated in the intensive care unit of a Munich hospital after severe pneumonia. According to consistent media reports, doctors placed the 80-year-old in a medically induced coma a few days ago due to his condition.
As reported by "tz" among others, Siegel initially experienced health issues in Spain. His wife Laura Siegel then had him brought to Germany. The musician is now being treated at a clinic in the Munich district of Harlaching.
Family speaks out
Daughter Giulia Siegel (51) publicly commented on her father's health condition on Monday evening. She wrote on Instagram: "The entire family is together and focused entirely on our father. He is currently in a medically induced coma, but is already able to breathe independently. We look ahead to the coming days with confidence."
At the same time, the family asked to avoid speculation and respect their privacy. "We ask that you refrain from speculation and respect only verified information. We will not be giving any further statements or interviews at this time." Laura Siegel, who has been married to Ralph Siegel since 2018, also shared the statement on Instagram.
Health challenges
The composer has been struggling with health problems for a long time. He has already survived four cancer diagnoses. In addition, he suffers from the nerve disease polyneuropathy. Last year, Siegel also tackled his weight problem and lost 36 kilograms in just three months.
Ralph Siegel is one of the most successful German composers. For decades, he shaped the Eurovision Song Contest with numerous entries, including the winning title "Ein bisschen Frieden" by Nicole from 1982.
