German national team star Jonathan Tah (30) has spoken out about the World Cup exit. The 30-year-old is receiving a lot of prominent support for his candid words about his missed penalty in the game against Paraguay. Tah explains on Instagram that he is "incredibly disappointed and sad" that the team was eliminated from the tournament. "To be honest, I still haven't really processed it", he adds. At the same time, he is "extremely grateful and proud to have been part of a World Cup for my country for the first time!"
"The team, our country and all those who support German soccer had hoped for so much more", the soccer star continues. "Accepting that you gave everything to play a successful tournament and that it still wasn't enough is the hardest part right now."
Jonathan Tah: "That hurts"
He then addresses his missed penalty in the World Cup Round of 16. He says it has "gone through my head thousands of times and you try to somehow steer it into the goal in your thoughts. But the reality is that the ball didn't go in. And that hurts".
Jonathan Tah then reveals: "But one thing is certain: I would take it again next time! With complete conviction and confidence to score it for Germany. It didn't work out this time, but it won't stop me from trying again next time. We as a team always keep going and I always keep going too, no matter what comes!" At the end of the post, he also thanks everyone "who supported us and cheered with us from start to finish!"
