The German World Cup opener apparently generated euphoria not only in sporting terms. After the 7-1 victory against Curaçao, so many fans stormed the online shop that equipment supplier Adidas ran out of a single letter: the "V". The jerseys of three national team players temporarily could not be ordered online, as reported by "Kicker" among others.

Affected were the jerseys of Kai Havertz, Deniz Undav and Aleksandar Pavlović - in the latter's case, the letter is even missing twice in his name. Anyone who wanted to have one of these jerseys customized online received the notice from Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning: "Sorry, we currently don't have the following characters in stock: V."

Adidas responds to demand

The manufacturer is not solely responsible for customizing the jerseys. "The DFB and its partner 11teamsports are responsible for the customization", explained Adidas spokesperson Oliver Brügen to "Bild". Due to the high demand for the names Undav, Havertz and Pavlović, there was a short-term shortage of the letter "V". Currently, the corresponding jerseys can be ordered again on the website.

A complete "Germany 26 home jersey" with custom name costs 100 euros at Adidas, with an additional 20 euros for customization with name and number. For the "Home Authentic" version, 150 euros plus customization costs of 20 euros are due.
