RTL Deutschland is adding both finals of the U19 European Championships to its free-TV program on short notice. Both the junior women's and junior men's teams of the DFB have reached their finals and will each face Spain. It begins on Friday with the women's final on Nitro, followed by the men one day later on RTL.
The U19 junior women's team coached by Melanie Behringer (40) will start things off. Nitro will broadcast the match on Friday starting at 5:30 PM, with kickoff at 6:00 PM. The game will be played at Grbavica Stadium in Sarajevo. The team of the former national player advanced to the final after a 1-0 victory against Austria, with the winning goal scored only in extra time. Frankfurt's Tessa Zimmermann (18) scored in the 109th minute.
Spain as Regular Guest in the Final
The German junior women face an opponent with an impressive record. Spain has secured the last four European Championship titles in this age group and advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 victory against Sweden. The two teams already faced each other in the final in 2023, when Spain prevailed in a penalty shootout. Now the DFB team has the opportunity for revenge.
For the broadcast on Nitro, Marcel Klein will host, Amanda Reiners will commentate the match, and Vanessa Martini will serve as expert. Ulrike Ballweg, who is responsible for talent development of women and girls at the DFB, will be heard as co-commentator.
Men in Final for First Time Since 2014
On Saturday, the U19 junior men will follow. RTL will show the final from Wrexham, Wales, starting at 7:30 PM, with kickoff at 8:00 PM. For the team coached by Christian Wörns (54), this is the first European Championship final since 2014. Back then, the team including Joshua Kimmich won the title with a 1-0 victory against Portugal.
The team fought its way into the final with a late 2-1 victory against Ukraine. Vitaliy Hlyut gave Ukraine the lead in the 43rd minute, Otto Stange from Hamburger SV equalized shortly before halftime. Francis Onyeka scored the winning goal in stoppage time. The Leverkusen player is on loan to SV Elversberg for the upcoming season.
Warning from the Group Stage
However, the German team does not go into the match without baggage. In the group stage, there was already a clear 0-4 defeat against Spain, which Wörns subsequently described as a "slap in the face." It should be noted, however, that Germany did not field its best lineup. For the RTL broadcast, Florian König will host, René Langhoff will commentate, with Sebastian Rode serving as expert at his side.
Both finals are additionally available on RTL+ as well as on the YouTube channel "RTL Sport." In parallel, the new federation channel DFB.tv will broadcast.
