Cologne architect Mads (Sebastian Ströbel) has lived a reclusive life since his wife's death. His daily routine is monotonous and lacks real joy. That changes abruptly when he randomly runs into his childhood friend René (Franziska Wulf). The vivacious single mother promptly moves in with her children, nine-year-old Lola (Thurid Charlotte Funck) and six-year-old Oscar (Thias Josef Dertinger). Overnight, new life returns to his home. Although René initially doesn't see Mads as a potential partner, he gradually grows into his role as a blended family father.

During his morning run in Munich's Westpark, Caspar Bergmann (Thomas Heinze) witnesses three teenagers attempting to set a sleeping homeless man on fire. He immediately orders a search for the fleeing suspects. In doing so, he discovers that the man on the park bench is already dead. Initially, Bergmann suspects the homeless man froze to death. However, a head injury and other clues point to a violent crime. A business card belonging to homeless care doctor Stefan Weber (Tobias Oertel), found in the deceased's coat pocket, should now help identify him.

Police officers Mia (Sandra Andreis) and Thomas (Jakob Cedergren) from Nacka are observing suspected alcohol smugglers at the harbor during a night shift. When Thomas briefly leaves to get coffee, Mia is severely injured and must be treated in intensive care. Thomas does everything to find those responsible. His only lead is a crate of imported alcohol. The investigation eventually reveals that the managing director of the import company lives on Sandhamn and knows Nora (Alexandra Rapaport) personally.
