Prince William (44) is speaking out publicly despite his private break: In light of the devastating wildfires in several European countries, the British heir to the throne has briefly interrupted his vacation to publish an emotional message.
The Prince of Wales is currently spending his summer vacation with his family. But the dramatic images of flames spreading across parts of Europe did not leave him unmoved. On Instagram, William addressed the people affected by the fires while also paying tribute to the work of emergency responders.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by the devastating wildfires in France, Spain and the United Kingdom", William wrote. He particularly highlighted the work of emergency services: "We are deeply grateful to the firefighters, emergency responders and volunteers who are working tirelessly under extraordinarily difficult conditions."
Prince William warns of consequences of climate change
For William, the current fires are not just an acute disaster, but also a sign of the growing challenges posed by extreme weather events. In his message, he emphasized how important it is to better protect people and nature.
