The oldest Wales child has become a teenager: Prince George celebrates his 13th birthday on July 22. As they do every year, his parents Prince William (44) and Princess Kate (44) shared a new portrait of their son for the special day. A few hours later, a short clip followed on Instagram, showing the future king from an exceptionally relaxed side - and waving at the camera coolly wearing sunglasses.
A video full of summer scenes
About 18 seconds of the young prince's summer can be seen. The opening shows George smiling and waving at the camera, wearing the orange sunglasses on his nose that he had already worn at Wimbledon earlier in the month. Afterwards, he chats during a boat ride, pets the family's two cocker spaniels, Orla and Otto, on the beach, and grabs a cricket bat in the sand.
Later, the prince leads his little brother Prince Louis (8) up a rocky hill, with water glistening in the background. George jumps over a gap in the hill, sits down on a rock and points into the distance. "Thank you for all the birthday wishes for George today", William and Kate write alongside the post, garnished with a cake emoji.
Sharing a video of the royal offspring with the world for their birthday has become a tradition this year. There was also new video footage to admire on Princess Charlotte's eleventh birthday in May and for Louis' special day in April.
George's formal birthday portrait also delighted
Previously, the Prince and Princess of Wales had already published a new official portrait of their oldest son. They posted on their social media channels with the lines "Happy 13th birthday, George!".
The picture was taken according to "Mail Online" at Kensington Palace by photographer Matt Porteous, who has worked for the family several times before. In it, George wears an elegant dark suit with a white shirt underneath.
According to the report, the photo was taken last month around the time of the Trooping the Colour military parade. He smiles at the camera in an emphatically casual manner with his hands in his pockets.
Boarding school begins in September
Prince George will transfer to Eton College as a boarding student in September. In doing so, he is following in his father's footsteps, who met some of his closest friends at the school. At the same time, William and Kate are carefully introducing their firstborn to the public. George is taking on a few more official engagements each year.
