The German federal government is minting a 35-euro collector coin in honor of singer Tamara Danz (1952-1996). The release is scheduled for March 2027 and is part of the 'Influential Women' series, which honors significant female personalities and their life achievements.
Tamara Danz was born on December 14, 1952 and died on July 22, 1996. As the singer of the band Silly, she became one of the most famous rock musicians in East Germany. In addition to her distinctive voice, her confident demeanor and political engagement shaped public perception. To this day, she is often referred to as the 'Voice of the East.'
The coin is the fourth release in the 'Influential Women' series, which is designed to feature twelve motifs. The individual coins are scheduled to be released between 2025 and 2035.
Motifs commemorate Tamara Danz and Silly
According to the Federal Ministry of Finance, the coin was designed by Berlin artist Bodo Broschat. The obverse features Tamara Danz in profile. Her characteristic hairstyle is particularly highlighted. Behind the portrait appears a silhouette resembling a paper cut-out with an open mouth and microphone, referencing her role as a singer.
Additional visual elements reference well-known works by the band Silly. The background features a vinyl record. On it, a Berlin cityscape with the Großer Bunkerberg can be seen, which is also known as 'Mont Klamott.' The motif recalls the album and song of the same name from 1983. A bird of paradise on the right edge of the coin references the song 'Birds of Paradise' released in 1989. The singer's name and dates of birth and death are arranged on the left edge.
The coin's edge bears the inscription in recessed lettering: 'BIRDS OF PARADISE CANNOT BE CAPTURED ♪'
The reverse side features the federal eagle, the inscription 'FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY,' the denomination, the year 2027, and the twelve European stars. The mint mark 'F' stands for the State Mints of Baden-Württemberg and the Stuttgart mint.
