Bill Kaulitz (36) has revealed why love only felt real to him for a long time when it hurt. "I grew up that way", the Tokio Hotel singer says according to an advance report in a joint interview with his twin brother Tom Kaulitz in "Stern".

Even as a young boy, he fell in love with the impossible, mostly with heterosexual friends who already had a girlfriend. Behind this was a very romantic calculation: If he really loves me, he will choose me. His brother has a dry explanation for this pattern: "And you watched too many dramatic movies."

Bill Kaulitz: Pain and wounded ego = love

The topic also comes up in the new Netflix season of "Kaulitz & Kaulitz", in which Bill Kaulitz says he always believed that great love had to hurt. "Tom always says if it were too easy, I would immediately lose interest." While he doesn't want to accept this theory, "I have often confused pain and a wounded ego with the feeling of being madly in love", the singer admits in the "Stern" interview.

According to his own words, Bill Kaulitz has never had an uncomplicated relationship. None that was public, none in which they lived together. "It was always hidden, a ducking away." In the past, he himself insisted on privacy, but now it's more the public that stands in the way. Many partners simply aren't willing to stand in the spotlight next to him. Nevertheless, Bill Kaulitz has hope for a beautiful partnership: "I still believe in love."

Tom Kaulitz: With Heidi "beautiful from day one"

For his twin brother, the assessment sounds completely different. According to his own statement, Tom Kaulitz was in committed relationships almost his entire life and never associated love with pain. He has been with Heidi Klum since 2018, married since 2019. "With Heidi and me, it was beautiful from day one", he says. That's why he keeps saying the same sentence to his brother: "It really exists, believe me!"

"Of course, it's not just the visual aspect, there's an attraction that I can't put into words", Tom Kaulitz explains further. This continues to this day, physically as well. Just recently, his wife publicly raved again about the joint "training sessions" with her husband. Tom Kaulitz agrees in "Stern": "That definitely connects us. [...] And of course it's beautiful when you still have that attraction after so many years. That's really the case with us." Bill Kaulitz confirms the impression from the outside: Mutual friends often say the two seem like they just met.

The singles table hurts

Bill Kaulitz notices how much he misses having his own relationship in a very specific place: at weddings. "When you're seated at the singles table while everyone else is celebrating love with their partners, that hurts", says Kaulitz. Nevertheless, he doesn't need a partner: "Of course I would like that, but I'm not desperately searching. A partner would be the cherry on top of my life."

When asked what should have changed in ten years, Bill Kaulitz becomes ironic again. Then please congratulate him on marrying the wonderful Travis Kelce, the wedding on the Orient Express looked fantastic, and ask him about his relationship with Taylor Swift. Tom Kaulitz stays on his line and simply wishes that he and Heidi Klum will still be as much in love then as they were on the first day.
