In just a few months, a passion project of "Star Wars" legend George Lucas (82) and his wife Mellody Hobson (57) will finally become reality. Ahead of the opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art on September 22, the museum is now announcing special offers for people from the immediate neighborhood. Local residents will not only benefit from special programs, but will also receive free admission.

The futuristic building in South Los Angeles is intended to be open to everyone. That's why the museum is granting free admission to residents living in the 90037 zip code area. With the so-called "LM37" pass, they can visit the museum free of charge, according to an official statement. According to reports from the U.S. trade magazine "The Hollywood Reporter", the area includes more than 17,000 households. About a quarter of the population there lives below the poverty line.

A new museum for everyone

"George Lucas and Mellody Hobson have pursued the vision from the very beginning of a museum where everyone feels welcome and that they can consider their own", explains museum director Tracey Bates in the statement. Stories have the power to connect people and create a sense of community. The museum therefore wants to be more than just an exhibition space and establish itself as a cultural center for everyone.

The museum has not yet announced any further concrete cultural and educational programs. However, it is known that a separate ticket allocation will be reserved for holders of the "LM37" pass starting from the opening. In addition, selected people from the neighborhood will be able to view the museum at a preview day on September 13.

Already on "Star Wars" Day on May 4, the museum had announced a special exhibition for the opening. Under the title "Star Wars in Motion", vehicle designs, props, costumes and illustrations from the first six films of the successful science fiction series will be shown, among other things.
