This was the question host Andy Cohen (58) asked the actress on the radio show "Radio Andy". After all, Anne Hathaway had announced in fall 2024 that a third installment of the comedy series would be coming after more than 20 years. But not much has happened since then.
She has other things to do right now than think about "The Princess Diaries 3", Anne Hathaway told Andy Cohen. "I'm currently busy making baby number three", the Oscar winner said laughingly to the host.
This has "kind of pushed aside the question" of when she can slip into the role of Mia Thermopolis for the third time. Anne Hathaway had announced via Instagram in June that she was expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman (45).
"Story breakthrough" for "The Princess Diaries 3"
Despite shifting her priorities, Anne Hathaway was able to deliver positive news to fans of "The Princess Diaries". She revealed that the creators have achieved a "story breakthrough" for part three.
"I think we're on the right track", Anne Hathaway said on "Radio Andy". To get on this track, according to the actress, those in charge had to "basically start from scratch".
"Very confident it will work this time"
This is "probably not the news anyone wants to hear", but the entire team is "very confident it will work this time", according to Hathaway.
In 2001, Anne Hathaway first portrayed young Mia, who turns out to be a princess of the (fictional) kingdom of Genovia. "The Princess Diaries 2" followed in 2004. At the end of the sequel, Mia is crowned queen. The third part is set to show how she handles being a ruler.
Anne Hathaway is currently experiencing a kind of renaissance. Before her appearance in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", "The Devil Wears Prada 2" hit theaters - 20 years after the first part.
