Vivienne Jolie-Pitt (18) wants to get rid of her father's last name. At the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the youngest daughter of Angelina Jolie (51) and Brad Pitt (62) has filed a petition to go through life as Vivienne Marcheline Jolie from now on. The documents, which are available to the magazine "People" and the portal "Page Six", cite only one word as justification: "personal". The petition is scheduled to be heard on November 2.
Vivienne's name honors her mother's family history. Marcheline Bertrand was Angelina Jolie's mother. She died in 2007 after an illness. Vivienne carries this connection in her middle name, and with the removal of "Pitt", it moves even more to the center.
Publicly only Jolie for a long time
Vivienne had visibly distanced herself from her paternal family name for quite some time. In May 2024, she appeared in the program of the Broadway production "The Outsiders" simply as "Vivienne Jolie". She worked on the show as an assistant, side by side with her mother.
This makes her not an isolated case, but part of a movement that runs through the entire family. Shiloh (20) made the start and, after her 18th birthday in May 2024, succeeded in removing "Pitt" from her name. "People" dates the approval of this petition to August 2024.
Siblings also want to drop the name
Maddox (24) filed the papers in May 2026 and cited personal reasons as well, as "Page Six" reports. Professionally, he had long operated as "Maddox Jolie", for example in the credits of the film "Couture", where he worked as an assistant director while his mother was in front of the camera. In June, Zahara's (21) petition became public, to change from Zahara Jolie-Pitt to simply Zahara Jolie. According to court documents, the petition dates back to April 28.
Even Knox, Vivienne's twin brother, showed distance. According to "Page Six", his diploma from the Fusion Academy in Los Angeles already stated "Knox Jolie", even though he has not yet filed a formal petition. Pax (22), on the other hand, is said to maintain contact with his paternal relatives, although his relationship with Brad Pitt is considered strained.
A rift that has run through the family for years
Behind the sober forms lies a long conflict. Jolie and Pitt separated in 2016, and the divorce became final in December 2024 after more than eight years of legal battles. To this day, the two are fighting over the French winery Château Miraval, which they once owned together.
In Pitt's circle, the series of name changes causes disappointment. A source close to the actor told "Page Six" of complete estrangement and called the process deliberate and unnecessary. Another insider countered that any possible distance of the children stems from harm suffered and that the now-adults are making their own decisions.
