In the years-long legal dispute over the French winery Château Miraval, Angelina Jolie (51) is once again filing an objection against a demand from her ex-husband Brad Pitt (62). The actress wants to prevent being required to submit tax documents and other financial records from the years 2017 to 2019 to the court.

According to a court document filed on June 26 with the Superior Court in Los Angeles, as reported by People, Jolie's attorneys argue that Pitt is misrepresenting her previous statements. He claims that Jolie portrayed financial distress as a central element of her case. However, it's actually about something else: She sought financial independence from her ex-husband to disentangle her finances from him - not because she needed money.

The question is not whether Jolie needed the money, the filing states. The question is that she was trying to separate her life and her finances from her controlling and abusive ex-husband.

Angelina Jolie's Attorneys Contradict Brad Pitt's Portrayal

On June 18, Pitt had filed a motion requiring Jolie to submit documents proving her income and profit participation between 2017 and 2019. His attorneys argued that Jolie herself had claimed she had to sell her shares in Château Miraval to achieve financial independence. This made her financial situation relevant to the case.

Jolie's attorneys clearly contradict this portrayal. They emphasize that their client never claimed to have been in financial distress. Rather, she merely tried to separate her economic affairs from her then-husband.

Pitt's motion also references that Jolie was among Hollywood's highest-paid actresses during those years. Mentioned among others are her engagements for Disney's Maleficent films as well as Marvel's Eternals.

Jolie's attorneys counter that she has already submitted her tax returns and profit participation records for the years 2020 and 2021 - even though she was not required to do so in their view. An expansion to the years 2017 to 2019 would represent a serious violation of her privacy.

Although the two stars officially finalized their divorce in December 2024, the dispute over the jointly owned winery is far from over. The conflict over Château Miraval has been occupying the courts since February 2022. At that time, Pitt sued his ex-wife because she had sold her share of the winery, even though both had agreed, according to Pitt, to do so only with mutual consent. Jolie later responded with a countersuit and accused Pitt of waging a vindictive war against her since their separation in 2016.
